Recently Mastermyne was invited to attend a safety session with Rio Tinto Coal Management at their offices in Brisbane. Allan Purse and Cleave Williams attended on behalf of Mastermyne and following a very informative and interesting session, Mastermyne was presented with a letter recognising the safety efforts of the Kestrel crews. The letter was very clear about why Rio Tinto view Mastermyne as a contractor they want in their organisation. The key things that Rio has recognised are Mastermyne’s;

• demonstrated and ongoing commitment to the management of health and safety at the Kestrel Mine Project;
• demonstrated consistent professionalism and willingness to ramp up during high tempo periods;
• embedding of core Rio Tinto Health and Safety Standards within our crews; and
• continuous improvement of our safety systems.

This is fantastic recognition for our crews and management at Kestrel and they should be proud of this achievement. Kestrel continues to lead the way in developing a safe and productive culture and the Rio letter certainly supports this.

This recognition is a clear reflection of the team’s behaviour and attitude towards safety observations, Take 5’s and JSA’s and all other tools that promote risk reduction.
