Mastermyne in the Running for Prestigious Awards
The finalist announcements for both the 2011 Australian Mining Prospect Awards and 2011 Mining Industry Skills Centre Training Awards have been made and Mackay company Mastermyne is a top contender to take our several awards relating to their innovative underground training facility, Myne Start.
The 8th annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards aim to encourage, recognise and reward excellence in the Australian mining industry. Past winners across all categories of the awards include the likes of BMA, Rio Tinto, DuPont and Xstrata Copper.
Mastermyne and Myne Start have been nominated in two categories for these awards; Contract Miner of the Year and Employer of Choice. To be deemed the Contract Miner of the Year the company must show that it has improved productivity and/or safety using new technology, innovative processes or techniques. To be named Employer of Choice the company must show that it has successfully attracted, trained and retained staff through innovative and unique strategies that promote the company as an employer of choice. The 2011 awards will be announced at a dinner held in Sydney on September 7.
In the 2011 Mining Industry Skills Centre Training Awards, Mastermyne and Myne Start have been named a finalist in the Innovation category with the winner announced at the 2011 Training Awards Dinner in Brisbane on September 16.
Since being officially opened in October 2010, 100 participants have been successfully trained in the Myne Start Underground Training Complex, all of which are now in full time employment in various underground mining operations across Queensland and New South Wales. Myne Start remains the only facility that is offering a training-to-employment pathway into the underground coal mining industry.
Mastermyne Managing Director Tony Caruso said, “I’m very pleased to see the training centre acknowledged for its contribution in providing a structured pathway for inexperienced people to safely and efficiently enter the underground mining sector. I’m proud that, thanks to the clever thinking team at Mastermyne, we’ve come up with an effective solution that contributes to addressing the complex issue of a skills shortage.”
