Callout to the Mastertec DBCT and Scaffold team!
This month we successfully introduced Layher’s latest product known as the FW system on site to bridge a span of elevated conveyor structure (L13 conveyor). We maximised the value in the product by constructing a 14m span bridge section on the ground, before craning it into position and tying it to the existing towers in place. Without the use of this product, the scaffold would have been built in situ some 20+ metres up in the air, requiring full time crane support and connection to the gallery along the span. For reference, I’ve also included a photo of our previous access solution for such a task on L3, which at the time itself was a leader in innovation through the use of cranable modules, itself a reduction to work at heights exposure, asset down time and real estate required.
In short, benefits provided from this project on L13 are as follows;
– Module was able to be constructed at ground level, and then tied into existing towers from existing working decks, eliminating most of the working at heights involved. (Reduction in risk)
– Module was constructed in an alternate laydown area, so as not to restrict traffic apart from the shift to lift it into position. (Reduction in asset downtime)
– Module was fully supported by our scaffold towers, so nil additional loading on the client’s infrastructure. (Reduction in impact on structure.)
– Reduction in time, manning required and crane hire reduced the actual cost to the client to approximately 20-25% of what it would have been. (Reduction in cost)
